A tall man with an oddly colored hair was bent low over a desk piled high with papers. Sighing he finished signing the last paper on the left side of his desk and, lazily, moved it to the right side of his desk. Leaning back he pushed his chair away from the desk and stood up, yawned and said wearily to himself; “It’s been a while since I pulled an all-nighter, I’m beat”. He walked over to the window and looked down at the street, mist was covering the ground, and a light snow had fallen covering the rooftops. Some houses along the street below had smoke rising from their chimneys, the gentle mist wrapping itself around the houses roofs. The sun had barely risen, giving an eerie glow to the village. The tall man turned around and stretched, walking the length of his office and opened his door, finding himself nose to nose with a tall girl, with bright pink hair.
Quickly stepping back he said, blushing “Hi Sakura-Chan umm… can I help you?” She had also stepped back and said, smiling, “Oh yeah, Naru-I mean Hokage-sama, I have a favor to ask!” Naruto sighed and said, resigned “Only if you never call me ‘Hokage-sama’ again, I’m sure I can help!” Sakura smiled and explained the situation…


Naruto looked at Sakura confused after she had completed the explanation. “So, you want me to authorize and expedition to go find Sasuke, but you want me to come…Tell me Sakura, how do I authorize my own mission???” Naruto said, close to laughter. Sakura smiled, but remained serious, and said again “So, will you do it!?” Naruto sighed, and said “Yeah, but tomorrow, I just finished an all night paperwork session, I don’t have the energy to even get back to my apartment” he said, crawling back to his couch and collapsing on it. Sakura giggled and said “Thanks Naruto!!!” With that, she left. Naruto sighed again and closed his eyes…

After what seemed like less than 10 minutes he was being gruffly shaken awake, and opening his eyes he saw an annoyed Gaara, standing over him, sand rising out of his gorge in annoyance. Naruto, who noticed this, jumped backwards and landed on one knee eight feet behind Gaara, then stood and relaxed. “Are you nuts??? And when did you get here? And why were you standing over me with sand ready to kill me!?” Naruto inquired hysterically. Gaara let the shadow of smile pass over him before regaining his indifferent expression and said, yawning “Well, you were supposed to meet me at the ramen stand at noon, because YOU had something important to tell me, I show up, and the person who told me to come isn’t there!? What the hell is that?” Naruto looked at his clock, placed on the wall just above his desk and said, with a grimace “Oh, shit…Sorry Gaara I stayed up all night with those damned papers, and fell asleep on the couch, overslept I guess” Naruto finished sheepishly. Gaara scowled, but it was over and so, Naruto, realizing his friend was in no mood to be fucked with, he picked up his sword and slung it over his back. “Well, no point not eating ramen now! C’mon Gaara, I’ll pay because I left you hanging earlier!” Naruto said energetically. Gaara merely nodded, which Naruto took to mean “Fine, but if you piss me off I’ll break your face on the sidewalk”.


Naruto and Gaara were almost five minutes into their ramen when a hysterical Kiba emerged and jumped behind the ramen counter. Naruto looked a little confused and said “Kiba is there a reason you’re running like a bitch?” Kiba looked up and was about to say something when he realized who was talking and said “Oh, uh, Hokage-sama…That was you…” Gaara smirked into his ramen and coughed to suppress a laugh and Naruto said “First, I hate Hokage-sama, it sounds weird, I went from monster to Hokage-sama in less than an hour, and it’s an unusual thing, so stick with Naruto ok? And why are you running like a bitch!?” Kiba grinned, showing his sharp pointed, doglike teeth and said “I’m running from Akamaru, he’s huge and for some stupid reason I forgot to feed him, and I don’t have the money for the food on me, its at my house, and its harder to get there with Akamaru chasing me all over the-” Kiba stopped abruptly and said, “well I got to go, he’s coming I can smell him! Later Naruto”. Kiba ran out the front of the tent and down the street. Gaara said darkly “Did I just get ignored like…completely?” Naruto laughed and chocked out a “yes” through his fit of laughter.
Naruto had by now, finished three bowls of ramen and looked at Gaara, who was finishing his second. “So yeah, I’m supposed to go on a mission to drag Sasuke back here tomorrow” Naruto said casually. Gaara stiffened and stole a sideways glance at Naruto and said, in as level a voice as he could “Why? It’s because she asked you to huh? You’re an idiot, you do know that don’t you?” Naruto shrugged and yawned “Yeah, but whatever, I gave my word a while back, and I still got to drag him back before I die or my nindo goes out the window”. Gaara shrugged and said, “Well I’m gunna come then, I got nothing better to do so…Where do we meet in the morning?” Naruto looked at Gaara and said evenly “Are you sure you want to involve yourself in such trivial matters? I mean, after all, he is the one who, if I may, ‘got away’”. Gaara looked at Naruto with a raised eyebrow and said quizzically “What am I supposed to understand by that?” Naruto grinned and said “Well, you never did manage to kill him, and I beat you so, you were totally deprived that week…” Gaara gave Naruto the kind of look that kills and Naruto laughed and said relaxed “Come on I was kidding, you should really learn to lighten up! This is why everybody likes you better drunk, you know that right!?” Gaara laughed and stood up, “You’re still paying! Don’t think I forgot!” Gaara said. Naruto pulled out his money and paid Ayame-san and left the tent with Gaara.
